Reed Sorenson joined Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates in 2003 as part of the team's driver development program.
In 2004, he ran three ARCA races and four Busch Series races for CGRFS, amassing one ARCA win at Michigan and four top-five and five top-10 finishes between the two series.
The next season, Sorenson reached Victory Lane twice in the Busch Series with his first win coming after a dominating performance at Nashville Superspeedway.
Before running two NEXTEL Cup events late in 2005, Sorenson was given the news that he would be behind the wheel of the NNCS Target Dodge full-time in 2006.
In his first full season in the NEXTEL Cup, Sorenson recorded a best finish of fifth at Michigan and a total of five top-10 finishes, resulting in a 24th place finish in the championship standings. Simultaneously, he ran in all but one of the Busch Series events in 2006, amassing five top fives and 14 top-10s en route to a 10th place finish in the standings.
