Dale Earnhardt dominated the 32nd Daytona 500 leading 155 of 200 laps. As Lap 199 began, Earnhardt would lead Derrike Cope, Terry Labonte and Bill Elliott on a one-lap trophy dash. Heading into Turn 3, Earnhardt’s right rear tire ran over a piece of bell housing. The result was a blown tire, adding to years of frustration for the great champion.
