Just about every finger was crossed at Daytona International Speedway in the 1998 Daytona 500 for Dale Earnhardt. Earnhardt fended off every challenger in the car that delivered his first Daytona 500 in 20 attempts. For the seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champ, there was great relief to win the one race that had eluded him. Daytona’s all-time wins leader had finally won the sport’s biggest prize and every team lined up on pit road to congratulate him on the way to Victory Lane. A sight never seen before or since.
