A year before in the Daytona 500, Ward Burton had a dominant car that finished 35th. In a race with bizarre twists and turns, Burton would find himself in a race-ending battle that featured just about everything, including former Daytona 500 champ Sterling Marling attempting to pull bodywork from his right front tire as the field sat during a red flag period.
