Bill Elliott, a native of Dawsonville, Ga., is a two-time winner of the Daytona 500 in 1985 and 1987 and holds the Daytona 500 qualifying record of 210.364 mph, a milestone set in 1987 and not likely to be broken. Elliott’s Daytona 500 wins in the famed No. 9 Melling Racing Ford were some of the most dominating performances seen in “The Great American Race.”
